Every institution begins with a single act of belief. Ours began in Abakaliki, in 2010, with Mrs Cleopatra Chekwubechukwu and a conviction that world-class fashion education did not have to belong only to Lagos or London.
What started as a small, intimate training space quickly grew into something the city had never seen before — a place where aspiring designers were not just taught to sew, but taught to think, create, and build. Word spread. Students came from across Ebonyi State, then from neighbouring states. The dream was already bigger than the room it started in.

Mrs Cleopatra Chekwubechukwu establishes Humble Fashion Academy in Abakaliki with a small cohort of eight students. The curriculum focuses on garment construction, fabric knowledge, and hand-finishing techniques. Every student receives direct, one-on-one mentorship from the founder.
Following strong demand from students, HFA introduces its first structured intermediate programme — Pattern Making & Tailoring. Enrolment triples within the year as word spreads across Ebonyi State. The academy relocates to a larger studio to accommodate the growing community.
HFA launches its advanced curriculum — Corsetry & Contouring and Bridal Wear Construction — attracting students from Enugu, Cross River, and Benue States. The academy hosts its first public student showcase, drawing designers, stylists, and media from across the South-East.
HFA celebrates its 100th graduate — a landmark moment that affirms the institution's place in Ebonyi's creative economy. To equip designers for the business side of the industry, HFA introduces the Fashion Business Class, covering pricing, branding, client management, and entrepreneurship.
During a challenging global period, HFA demonstrates its resilience by restructuring its programme delivery and maintaining its commitment to students. The academy uses the period to refine its curriculum and emerges stronger — adding Streetwear Design and Digital Illustration to its roster of disciplines.
HFA opens its second campus location, housing a dedicated bridal couture room, photography lab, and digital design suite. Industrial-grade sewing machines, professional cutting tables, and a fashion library are installed, bringing the physical learning environment to an entirely new standard.
Humble Fashion Academy surpasses 500 alumni, with graduates now running fashion labels, working for designers in Lagos and Abuja, and building businesses across Nigeria. HFA's reputation as the South-East's leading fashion training institution is firmly established.
With applications open for the July 2026 cohort, HFA enters its sixteenth year with its most comprehensive curriculum to date — twelve disciplines across beginner, intermediate, advanced, and professional tracks. The mission remains unchanged: to give every student the skills, confidence, and platform to tell their story with excellence.
